What does a Support Coordinator do?
A Support Coordinator helps you develop your knowledge, skills and confidence, so that you understand and use your NDIS plan to best pursue your goals. A Support Coordinator can help connect you with NDIS providers, as well as community, mainstream and other government services. A Support Coordinator should ultimately aim to build your confidence and skills to enable you, where possible, coordinate your own supports.
Together we will:-
- Help you understand your NDIS plan
- Assist you to work towards making your plan goals happen
- Assist you to manage your NDIS plan funding (self-managed, Plan managed and/or agency managed)
- Assist you to find the services and supports that best meet your needs to achieve your goals
- Assist you to connect with others in your community that like the same things as you
- Negotiate with service providers to make the most of your NDIS funding and assist you with service agreements, service bookings and the NDIS portal
- Sort out issues as they happen
- Put a plan in place in case something goes wrong.
What don’t Support Coordinators do?
Support Coordinators:
- Don’t provide direct care or hands on support - This is the role of a support worker
- Don’t transport people to and from appointments- This could also be the role of a support worker.
- Don’t get involved in any Administrative Appeals Tribunal processes
- Aren’t available after 5pm or on weekends. Other services provide this out of hours support
- Don’t manage your NDIS plan budget. The management of your funding generally sits with your plan manager or yourself. .
